For his time he was a great Oba.  He is the one that developed the organization of the Benin Kingdom before the British Invasion.  He established things like the police, house of chiefs (Legislalture), and other government offices which together formed a complete government.  He was known to be round and robust in nature.  This statue is 15 years old and made of local hardwoods, likely Nigerian Ebony.  Notice the bead work in the headdress which was very common among royalty in Benin history.  The portly figure stands 17 inches tall by 6 inches wide, and weighs about 6 pounds.
